Section 2 of 7

The Process

Six steps from first conversation to closing.

Most sales follow these six steps. Every business is different, so timing and order can vary.

Initial Consultation

We begin with a confidential consultation to understand your goals, timeline and business. We do not perform business valuations. When you need one, we can introduce you to trusted professionals in our network that past clients have had success with.

Typical range2–4 weeks

Preparation & Positioning

We work with you to prepare comprehensive marketing materials, including a Confidential Information Memorandum (CIM), financial summaries and operational overviews. We’ll also help you address any issues that could impact value or saleability.

Typical range3–6 weeks

Marketing & Buyer Identification

We confidentially market your business to qualified buyers through our buyer network, industry contacts and targeted outreach. All prospects sign NDAs before receiving detailed information.

Typical range2–4 months

Negotiation & Letter of Intent

We facilitate meetings, manage buyer questions and negotiate on your behalf to secure the best possible terms. Once we have a strong offer, we’ll negotiate a Letter of Intent (LOI) that outlines the key deal terms.

Typical range2–6 weeks

Due Diligence

The buyer will thoroughly examine your business: financials, operations, legal matters, contracts and more. We help you prepare for and manage this process, coordinating with your accountants and attorneys as needed.

Typical range4–8 weeks

Closing & Transition

Final purchase agreements are signed, funds are transferred and ownership changes hands. We coordinate with all parties to ensure a smooth closing. Most deals include a transition period where you help the new owner for 30–90 days.

Typical range2–4 weeks

Typical rangeMany sales take 6–12 months from start to finish. Complex deals or larger businesses may take longer.
